The Economic Freedom Fighters under leader Julius Malema were thrown out of Parliament on Tuesday, as they were the last time President Jacob Zuma was to address the house, although this time it was with much more force and with punches flying.
The EFF has maintained, since the Constitutional Court hearing over Nkandla ruled that Zuma had not respected the constitution, that Zuma is an illegitimate president and should not be allowed to address parliament.
The EFF was booted from parliament less than two weeks ago for the same offense, although this time the party’s response was louder and the clash with officials more physical.
Speaker Baleka Mbete order the EFF out of the house, but parliamentary protection services were called in. Punches flew and objects thrown at the new arrivals, as is clear in the video from Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier in the session, Malema had enough time to ask Des van Rooyen (the shortlived minister of finance before Pravin Gordhan was appointed), who is now Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, what he was doing in Dubai recently when he made a one-day trip. (See video at end.)
In April Zuma denied an allegation by Malema that he had taken R6 billion to Dubai for the Guptas, who have since moved there. Later that month van Rooyen made a short trip of a day to Dubai, at the same time the Guptas were there, but reportedly said that he was there on holiday.
