EFF claim Cape Metro officer manhandled their councillor

EFF members were thrown out of a City of Cape Town council meeting for protesting and disrupting mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis during his speech.

The Economic Freedom Front(EFF) in the Western Cape has condemned the manhandling of one of their female councillors during a City of Cape Town council meeting on Thursday.

EFF DISRUPTS COUNCIL MEETING

In a video, EFF councillor Lungiswa Ntshuntshe can be seen being manhandled by Cape Metro police officers, after they picked her up and dragging her out of the council chamber.

The EFF had been protesting during a council meeting, calling for the axing of MMC for Safety and Security JP Smith, following the recent taxi strike unrest in the metro. They also calling for a halt in the continued impounding of taxi’s.

At the start of the council meeting, EFF members had been silently protesting, holding up their banners. Despite warnings from council speaker Felicity Purchase, the EEF moved onto to disrupting mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis during his speech and forcing him off the podium.

Hill-Lewis was interrupted while making announcement of who will be the first recipients the of Civic Honors from the City of Cape Town in 12 years.

“It quiet evident that the DA has no regard for black women in the Western Cape, this Gender-Based Violence will not go unpunished”, the EFF said in a social media post.

COUCIL MEMBERS WAS JP SMITH GONE

Some of the banners banners held up by the EFF says ‘JP Smith has blood on his hands’, ‘JP Smith is killing black economy’. The protesting members also requested for black business to be allowed to operate in peace.
