Durban toddler dies allegedly after consuming polony from Shoprite
Shoprite and Thompson Meat have both said there is nothing wrong with polony eaten by a toddler which allegedly lead to her death.
A Durban father is reeling in shock following the death of his two year old daughter allegedly after consuming Thomson brand polony he purchased from Shoprite.

On a Facebook post, Anthony Hadebe says he purchased the 2kg polony from a Shoprite store in Bridge City Mall on the 14th August, which he shared between two households for his kids.
The very next day, on the 15 August, his fiance and principal of his kid’s school called him, both reporting to be vomiting and having diarrhoea. Hadebe says he was told by his children’s principal that the symptoms developed soon after lunch.
Two year old Sinenhlanhla, succumbed to her illness on 1 November. While here brother continues fighting for his life in hospital.

Speaking to EFF KZN leader Mongezi Twala, Hadebe says he feels like his life is over, as he has also lost his job and partner over this incident.

“Angikwazi ukwenza lutho. Ngilahlekwelwe umsebenzi, ngikweleta abantu. Shoprite says I’m lying and my partner kufana nokuthi usengishiyile”, a teary Hadebe says.
“I’m not lying about this. Iyenzeke ngomhlaka 15 (August) ngayi-reporta ngomhlaka 16.”

The now father nine says he made contact with the manufacturer Thompson Meats, where a representative Anthony Pillay handed him a complimentary package which he says it too had rotten polony.
SHOPRITE AND MANUFACTURES SPEAK OUT
According to the Sunday Tribune, Shoprite has said it ran lab tests and have found no bacteria that could lead to an illness was found in the polony.

While lawyers for Gen4Foods Pty(Ltd) which manufactures Thompson Meats polony, say they have also run the same tests and found no micro-organism that could result to illness.
They have also requested Hadebe take down any social media posts, alleging that his duaghter’s death was caused by their product.
