The South African Police Services (SAPS) announced the arrest of a 21-year-old male at 15h30 today at Stellenbosch SAPS in connection with the January 2015 axe murders of three members of a family on the De Zalze Golf Estate.
In video footage posted on YouTube it appears to show the son and brother of the murder victims – Henri van Breda – handing himself in. (Watch below.) Henri, and sister Marli, were the only survivors of the attack in which he had scratches and she suffered serious head injuries, including amnesia.
Their father Martin van Breda, his wife Teresa and their son Rudi were fatally injured.
In a statement from the SAPS Media Centre in the Western Cape, it says: “Our investigation into the three murders and an attempted murder which were perpetrated on the De Zalze estate during January 2015 led to the arrest of a 21 year old suspect this afternoon when he handed himself over to the Stellenbosch police at 15h00.
“The suspect is due to make a court appearance tomorrow in Stellenbosch to face three counts of murder and one of attempted murder.”
