DA opens criminal case against eThekwini municipal officials
Suspended EThekwini City Manager Musa Mbhele will face criminal charges laid by the DA for failing to report corruption.
The Democratic Alliance(DA) in Durban has sought legal action against three senior EThekwini Municipality officials over the alleged theft of R17million.
CRIMINAL CASE OPENED
DA leader in the metro, Thabani Mthethwa in his affidavit implicates City Manager, Musa Mbhele, Chief Financial Officer, Sandile Mnguni and Head of Housing, Lawrence Pato.

The officials who have since been suspended are said to have transferred the money into the accounts of two companies.
MONEY MEANT FOR FLOOD VICITMS
According to Mthethwa, the money was earmarked to rebuild homes flood victims and or other ordinary housing projects for residents of Umlazi, eMaphephetheni and KwaMakhutha.
These are projects that had been undertaken by the Municipalities human settlement and infrastructure unit.

“We are of the view that they are an accessory to crime and ANC corruption enablers. They have shown the lengths they are willing to go to protect the interests of the ANC and its cadres”, says Mthethwa.
“This, despite the fact that these funds were also meant to help rebuild homes of flood victims. In typical ANC style they chose to line their own pockets at the expense of residents.”
