Crime Stats: Over 6000 murders between April and June
Police have released the latest crime stats. Durban remains the countries murder capital with Inanda and Umlazi the nations top two stations.
6228 people have been murdered around the country between April and June this year. These were the glaring crime statistics released by Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola on Friday.

The Commissioner announced the country’s quarterly crime statistics in Pretoria, which revealed a marginal decrease in the murder rate.
If compared to the same period last year, there are 196 less reported murders, with 6424 murders reported between April and June 2022, a slight drop of three percent.
According to the statistics, the murder of choice which claimed the lives of almost half of the reported cases was a gun. 2756 of the victim were shot. While 862 were stabbed with knives.

The murder capital of the country remains in eThekwini Metro with Inanda and Umlazi Police stations recording the highest murder cases in the first quarter.

Masemola revealed that most of the murders in the country occur in public places. These include the beach, parking area, abandoned building, recreational centre, open field or the street.
Of the 6228 murders reported, 3072 murders occurred in a public place. Meanwhile 1685 murders occurred at the residence of the victim or perpetrator. The place where murders least occurred was at the premises of public transport such as a bus stop, taxi rank or train station which just 62 murders reported
