Councillor Van der Ross ‘horrified’ by attacks on public facilities

Councillor Patricia Van der Ross, in a statement, was horrified by events in the last day – attacks on clinics and libraries
Despite the unstable situation, staff went to work in the morning. As time passed, around eight clinics were methodically shut down.
According to CityNews masked thugs intimidated staff and clients, leading to closures.

COUNCILLOR SAYS THE LIBRARY WAS BROKEN INTO
Councillor Van der Ross expressed, “They returned an hour later, breaking doors and windows at the facility, which is now closed.
Given the ongoing volatility in the area, a full assessment of the damage has yet to be completed.

YOUTH CLINIC VANDALISED
Councillior Van der Ross stated they’re waiting for confirmation about damage to the Youth Clinic in Site C, Khayelitsha, which was vandalised overnight.
“These senseless acts of violence and intimidation have done nothing but hurt the affected communities,” said Councillor Van der Ross.
The Councillor explained that replacing stolen and ruined infrastructure will require time.
Staff dealing with trauma will impact clinic and library services, affecting residents, including those involved in disguised criminal acts.

“Today, a number of our clinics and libraries remain closed, due to staff shortages or volatility in the areas where they are situated,” said Councillor Van der Ross.
