The City of Cape Town has temporarily adjusted the operating hours for most waste drop-off sites, now closing at 18:00 daily. The change, effective immediately, is due to unexpected staff transportation challenges.

Some Sites Remain Unaffected

While the new closing time applies to most drop-off sites, a few locations will continue operating as usual. These include Killarney, De Grendel, Wynberg, Mitchells Plain, Woodstock, and Delft. Residents relying on these sites will not experience any changes.

Alderman Grant Twigg, the mayoral committee member for urban waste management, acknowledged the inconvenience this adjustment may cause but assured the public that the city is working to resolve the issue.

Planning Ahead for Waste Disposal

Residents are urged to plan their visits to waste drop-off sites accordingly, especially those affected by the earlier closing time. The city encourages people to check the official website for a full list of drop-off locations and updated operating hours.

Twigg emphasised the importance of public cooperation during this period.

“Residents are encouraged to plan their visits to drop-off sites accordingly to accommodate the earlier closing time where applicable,” he said.

Efforts to Restore Normal Operations

City officials are working to resolve the transport-related difficulties as quickly as possible. While there is no timeline yet for when normal operating hours will resume, Twigg reassured residents that updates would be provided as progress is made.

“For a comprehensive list of drop-off locations and their operating hours, please refer to the City’s official resources on our website,” he said.

“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period.”
