City of Cape Town announces 12-hour water supply interruption
Certain areas of Cape Town will experience a 12-hour water outage on Thursday, 26 September. Here’s what you should be aware of.
Parts of Cape Town will experience a 12-hour water shutdown on Thursday, 26 September.
The City of Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will be doing planned maintenance work which will result in water supply disruptions.
12-HOUR WATER SHUTDOWN IN CAPE TOWN
The City of Cape Town said maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements will cause supply disruptions in the following areas:
Gunners Circle—Epping Industria The water supply to this area will be shut off from 9:00 to 19:00 on Wednesday, 25 September.
The municipality said this will enable the maintenance team to safely connect the main water supply pipeline to this area, improving the management of future water supply shut-offs. Affected consumers need to please store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance.
Century City and part of Milnerton—The Water and Sanitation Directorate will test shut off the main water supply pipeline to these areas from 10:00 to 14:00 on Thursday, 26 September.
“This will ascertain the areas that will be impacted during the shut-off to repair a leaking water main in Sable Road adjacent to the N1. The date for the shut-off to do the repairs will be communicated shortly after that. Affected consumers must please store enough water in clean sealed containers in advance.”
Koeberg Power Station, 13th to 22nd Avenue Melkbosstrand, Ou Skip Caravan Park and Melkbosstrand Village – The City of Cape Town said its water and sanitation directorate will be shutting off the 600mm diameter water main in Otto Du Plessis Drive from 8:00 until 20:00 on Thursday, 26 September.
In addition to the repairs, the City of Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will conduct zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments on the water supply network in the following areas:
Thursday, 26 September, from 9:00 until 17:00: Vredekloof, Welgelee, Arauna, Morgenster, St Kilda, Marlborough Park, Brackenfell Industrial and Okavango Park in Brackenfell and Brackenfell South.
