Check WC road closures before you travel

Severe weather has caused significant disruption in various areas of the Western Cape over the past week, leading to road closures and damage to infrastructure.

The City of Cape Town expects it is not over just yet. Here are details of the current road closures.

WESTERN CAPE STORMS: MAIN CITRUSDAL ROUTE FLOODED

A key route that flooded earlier is the MR310 which links Citrusdal to the N7, according to Provincial Minister for Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers. He added that motorists can use alternative routes towards Clanwilliam and Ceres that are still open. These are the DR2183, DR539, and the DR1487. Although currently closed, it is possible that the Gydo Pass will be reopened later today which will provide another road link to Citrusdal. Simmers cautioned that heavy motor vehicles should not use these alternative routes as they have a number of low-water bridges, according to capetownetc.

Clarence Drive at Rooiels, the Van der Stel Pass, and Uitkyk Pass have one lane open only.

In the Cape Winelands region, the following routes are only partially open:

• MR310, Gydo Pass – Operating with Stop/Go
