Certain areas of Johannesburg will experience a nine-hour power outage on Friday

Eskom’s planned maintenance will cause a nine-hour power outage in parts of Johannesburg on Friday, 11 October.

Eskom has announced a scheduled nine-hour power outage in Sandton, Johannesburg, for maintenance on Friday, 11 October.

The maintenance is scheduled to start from 9:00 – 18:00.

NINE-HOUR POWER OUTAGE IN JOHANNESBURG

The power utility said there will be electricity supply disruption in Sandton due to maintenance that will be conducted on the distribution network.

The power outage will affect customers in Benmore and Sandown on Friday, 11 October, from 9:00 – 18:00.

Eskom said the interruption of electricity is necessary to perform essential maintenance on its distribution power lines. However, should any circumstances beyond its control arise, the planned electricity maintenance may not proceed.

CUSTOMERS URGED TO TREAT ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AS LIVE

In the interest of safety, Eskom said customers should treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power outage.

“Eskom apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused by this maintenance. Should circumstances beyond the control of Eskom arise, the planned electricity maintenance may not proceed as communicated,” the power utility added.

A LOAD SHEDDING FREE SUMMER?

Meanwhile, Eskom said South Africans can have a load shedding free summer if it manages to keep unplanned losses at power stations below 13 000MW.

The Generation Operational Recovery Plan has successfully kept loadshedding suspended, achieving 191 consecutive days of uninterrupted power supply since 26 March.

“Operational efficiency has met summer expectations, with unplanned outages averaging 11 181MW over the past week, compared to 14 743MW during the same period last year, marking an improvement of 3 562MW.As of today, Eskom’s available generation capacity is 30 725MW, with an evening peak forecast of 26 239MW for 04 October 2024,” the power utility said at the weekend.
