Bonteheuwel residents in Cape Town should brace for planned power outages as the city conducts crucial infrastructure maintenance during October 2024. The interruptions, set to occur between 22 and 31 October, are part of the City’s efforts to ensure reliable electricity supply by upgrading critical systems. These power outages will take place between 8:30 and 16:00 on selected days, with the city apologising for the inconvenience caused.

Areas that will be affected by the power outage

The areas of Prunus, Redbury, and streets such as Kiaatweg and Rooihoutweg will be affected on 22 October. The city has provided maps to help residents identify the specific areas impacted on the scheduled dates. Notably, the city emphasises that power will be cut off only in the highlighted areas.

Safety precautions for residents

Residents are advised to treat all electrical installations as live during the outages, as the electricity supply could be restored at any time without prior notice. The city encourages residents to switch off appliances to prevent potential damage caused by power surges when electricity is restored.

City officials urge the community to cooperate for their safety and convenience. “Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on,” the city said in a statement.

Apology and cooperation

The city expressed its gratitude to Bonteheuwel residents for their understanding during this period. They reiterated that this maintenance would contribute to a more stable electricity network and minimise future disruptions.

“The city apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding,” the city added.
