As Cape Town navigates its ongoing commitment to water management, residents are urged to brace themselves for scheduled water outages and disruptions set to occur throughout this week.
These water outages are part of a proactive maintenance and infrastructure upgrade initiative aimed at bolstering the efficiency and reliability of the city’s water supply system.
TUESDAY WATER OUTAGE SCHEDULE
Commencing on Tuesday, 20 February, various neighborhoods will experience planned water outages for essential maintenance tasks. Bellville South, Beroma, Glenhaven, Labiance, and Kasselsvlei are among the areas slated for zero-pressure tests and conditional assessments from 10:00 until 16:00. During this period, residents may encounter fluctuations in water pressure or temporary water unavailability.
Simultaneously, parts of Hout Bay, specifically Baviaanskloof and its surrounds, will undergo maintenance work. This work involves the replacement of three control valves on the water supply network. Scheduled from 9:00 until 17:00, this operation necessitates a temporary water outage. This is to ensure the safety and completion of the work.
During this period, residents should actively make necessary arrangements and store adequate water for domestic use.
On the same day, Bloekoembos, Wallacedene, Sandringham, Belmont Park, Klein Begin, Peerless Park, and Eikendal will experience a temporary water outage. This outage is due to maintenance at the Wemmershoek Water Treatment Plant from 7:00 until 15:00. Residents in these areas should minimise water consumption to alleviate pressure on the system.

The maintenance drive extends into Thursday, 22 February, with Brackenfell and Firgrove undergoing necessary repairs. In Brackenfell, workers will replace a 400mm diameter meter insert from 10:00 until 15:00, with no expected impact on water supply for residents.
Meanwhile, Firgrove will see the replacement of a 150mm diameter control valve on the water supply main from 9:00 until 16:00, with potential water tanker availability for affected residents.
FRIDAY WATER OUTAGE SCHEDULE
Finally, on Friday, 23 February, the Westlake Industrial area will experience zero-pressure tests and conditional assessments from 10:00 until 16:00. This may potentially lead to low water pressure or temporary water outage.
“The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused,” said the City.
The City of Cape Town extends its gratitude to residents for their cooperation and understanding during the water outages.
These proactive measures are vital. They ensure the long-term reliability and sustainability of the city’s water supply system. They guarantee clean water for all residents.
