The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will carry out planned work in identified areas, causing disruptions in water supply.
Residents in affected areas in Cape Town are urged to take note of the upcoming work and prepare accordingly.
WATER SHUTDOWN ON WEDNESDAY
In Victorskloof – Hout Bay, the Water and Sanitation Directorate will install a new HDPE water pipeline in Valley Road, from Martingale Avenue into Welbevind Way, between 9:00 and 17:00 on Wednesday, 17 April.
This installation will require shutting off the water supply in Valley Road, affecting residents on Victorskloof Road, Surcingle Avenue, Almond Close, Monterey Road, Valley Road, Welbevind Way, and surrounding roads.
Additionally, the National Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) will conduct pumping tests from the Berg River to the Riviersonderend Tunnel, which supplies the Faure and Blackheath Water Treatment Plants. These tests will reduce the supply to Faure and Blackheath from Monday morning, 15 April, until the evening of Tuesday, 16 April. The City of Cape Town is proactively replenishing its reservoirs ahead of the DWS shutdown.
DWS will fill its buffer dam, the Kleinplaas Dam, in advance to sustain water supply to the Faure and Blackheath Water Treatment Plants, albeit at a reduced rate.
CAPE TOWN RESIDENTS ASKED TO MINIMISE WATER CONSUMPTION
Consequently, drinking water production from these plants, which serve a significant portion of the Cape Town, will be halved, potentially causing temporary water pressure reductions in some areas.
“The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused. This critical work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers,” said the City.
Residents across Cape Town are kindly asked to minimise water consumption during this period to ensure a sustainable water supply.
