Cape Town to experience water and electricity disruptions in April
Prepare for scheduled water and electricity outages in Cape Town this April as the city conducts essential maintenance.

The City of Cape Town has announced scheduled maintenance that will temporarily disrupt both water and electricity supply in various parts of the metro throughout April. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead to minimise inconvenience during these essential upgrades.
Water supply interruptions: Store water in advance
To ensure long-term improvements to the city’s water infrastructure, planned maintenance will take place on the following dates and locations:
- Somerset Ridge, Westridge, and Garden Village (Somerset West) – Water supply will be temporarily shut off from 9:00 to 16:00 on Tuesday, 1 April. This is necessary to install a control valve at the corner of Disa Street and West Street in Westridge. While this will require shutting off water at the reservoir, the new valve will help reduce the impact of future shut-offs.
- Simon’s Town – A large section of Simon’s Town will experience a water supply disruption from 8:00 to 17:00 on Wednesday, 2 April. This will allow the safe connection of newly installed pipelines along Wickboom Lane, Thomas Street, Water Lane, and Rickett’s Close to the existing water infrastructure.
Residents in affected areas are urged to store enough water in advance for household use and to avoid unnecessary water usage during these periods.
Scheduled electricity maintenance to impact select areas
In addition to water supply disruptions, the City of Cape Town’s electricity and generation teams will conduct critical infrastructure maintenance in Surrey Estate and Heideveld throughout April. The work, which will be carried out on 1, 9, 24, and 30 April from 8:30 to 16:00, will result in temporary power outages in specific areas.
