Some areas in Cape Town will face an eight-hour water shutdown due to planned maintenance by the Water and Sanitation Directorate.

The maintenance work will start on Tuesday, 26 March.

EIGHT-HOUR WATER OUTAGE IN CAPE TOWN

The City of Cape Town said maintenance work, including pipe, valve, and meter installations, repairs, and replacements, will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Victorskloof – The maintenance team will do a test shut-off on the main water supply to the area from 11:00 until 15:00 on Monday, 25 March. The team will do this to confirm the extent of the impact ahead of the actual work on Wednesday, 27 March 2024, and will result in the disruption in the water supply.

The municipality said the maintenance team will install a temporary bypass on the water supply leading to Victorskloof, Surcingle, Almond, and Monterey Roads in Hout Bay as part of the pipe replacement project in the area.

“This will require that the water supply to these roads and immediate surrounds be shut off from 09:00 until 17:00 on Wednesday, 27 March, to enable the work to be done safely,” The municipality said.

Philippi, Browns Farm, Marcus Garvey, and Schaapkraal – In this part of Cape Town, the maintenance team will be replacing a 500mm diameter water meter insert on the water supply main in Govan Mbeki Drive, Manenberg from 10:00 until 16:00 on Tuesday, 26 March.

This work will also require that the water supply to these areas be shut off during this period to enable the work to be done safely.

HERE’S WHAT RESIDENTS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE MAINTENANCE

Residents should note that the maintenance work can sometimes be more complex than anticipated, so the work could take longer.

In addition, the water may be discoloured or look milky for a short period after the supply has been restored.

“This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like usual,” the City of Cape Town explained.
