South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has embraced the digital era by introducing a straightforward online passport application system in 2016.
Through the eHome Affairs system, individuals can now perform various tasks, such as submitting online applications for ID and passports, making online payments, and booking appointments where applicable.

THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR ONLINE APPLICATIONS
However, the collection of biometric data, including photos, fingerprints, and signatures, still necessitates a visit to a physical branch.
The required documents for online applications differ for children and adults, with children needing a birth certificate and adults requiring a South African identity document.

HERE’S A GUIDE TO HELP YOU NAVIGATE THE ONLINE BOOKING PROCESS FOR HOME AFFAIRS PASSPORTS:
- Visit the eHomeAffairs website.
- Click on “Register” located in the top right corner.
- Fill in your details, including a mandatory email address and phone number.
- Validate your email address by clicking on the link sent via SMS One Time Pin (OTP).
- Once your information is verified, log in to the eHomeAffairs website.
- Select “Create New Application” and specify the type of document you need (e.g., “Adult Tourist Passport”).
- Provide all the necessary details.
- Upload an image of your ID.
- Enter your banking details to make the R600 fee payment.
- Process the payment by logging into your online banking.
- After the payment is cleared, you can choose a branch for passport collection.
