Can Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda survive another vote of not confidence?
It may be eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda’s last day in office today, as he faces his second vote of no confidence in 2023.
Inkatha Freedom Party in Durban has made their intentions clear and they want Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda removed from office.

The party filed a motion of no confidence earlier this week, which they hope will be debated during the council meeting taking place on Thursday.
Among the concerns of the IFP is the findings of irregular expenditure by the Auditor General.
Laumda is also said to have written off billions on unauthorized, irregular and fruitless expenditure.
These concerns include:
- Misuse of municipal finance during the COVID-19 pandemic, potentially affecting the resources allocated for public health and safety during a crisis.
- Protracted and unnecessary delays in providing housing to flood victims, leaving vulnerable residents without adequate shelter.
- The return of R1.9 billion to the National Treasury, due to unspent grants designated for repairing critical infrastructure damaged during floods.

FIRST ATTEMPT AT GETTING RID OF THE MAYOR
This is the second motion filed against the mayor this year. Kaunda in February, survived a no confidence vote, after ActionSA sought to have him vacate his office.

In a special council meeting convened to elect a new deputy mayor, 126 councillors from the ANC, EFF and NFP and other smaller parties voted against it.
The had also supported ActionSA in their bid to remove Kaunda with the party telling the mayor to ‘focus on his music career.
