British passenger dies at OR Tambo International Airport

A British passenger collapsed and tragically died at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Michael Joseph Morris collapsed in the international arrival bathrooms after arriving on British Airways flight BA 57 from London, Heathrow.

He was travelling with his wife.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) CEO Mpumi Mpofu extended her heartfelt condolences to Morris’ family and friends.

ACSA paramedics responded immediately, but Morris was declared dead at the scene.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and ACSA’s security team attended to Morris.

The cause of death is yet to be officially determined.

ACSA confirmed that a British Embassy official was a passenger on the same flight and assisted with contacting the embassy to advise them of the incident.

Mpofu furthermore said they had been informed that Morris’ family is scheduled to travel back to the United Kingdom on Friday.
