Eskom announced that Stage 6 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until 5:00 until further notice.

National power utility Eskom will implement Stage 6 load shedding on Monday, 29 May. Delays in returning generation units to service was cited as the reason for the escalation in the severity of the power cuts.

STAGE 6 LOAD SHEDDING RETURNS

Stage 6 load shedding kicks in from 16:00 on Monday until 5:00 on Tuesday, when it will be replaced by Stage 4 power cuts. This pattern will remain in place until further notice.

There have been delays in returning ten generating units to service, said Eskom.

BREAKDOWNS AND DELAYS

As things stand, 18 751MW of electricity capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns, and a further 2407MW is unavailable due to planned maintenance.

Over the past 24 hours, a unit each at Duvha, Kriel and Tutuka power stations were taken offline for repairs, and there were delays in returning units to service at Arnot, Duvha, Hendrina, Kriel, Lethabo, Majuba, Matimba and Camden (2).

During the same period, a unit each at Hendrina and Kendal were returned to the grid.
