BREAKING: Classroom ceiling collapses injuring 18 learners
Eighteen Grade 6 pupils were injured when a classroom ceiling at a primary school in Thembisa collapsed on them on Tuesday.
A total of 18 learners at the Umthambeka Primary School in Tembisa were injured as their classroom ceiling collapsed in class on Tuesday.

According to the Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, approximately 18 Grade 6 learners sustained injuries.
The injured learners were rushed to local medical facilities.

THE LEARNERS WERE IN CLASS WHEN THE CEILING COLLAPSED
The learners were in class at the time of the incident.
“Currently, two learners are still recovering at a local medical facility while others are recuperating at home.
“The cause of the incident is uncertain at this stage. As such, we have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
A TOTAL OF 18 GRADE 6 LEARNERS WERE INJURED
He also added that a Psycho-Social Support Team would be dispatched to the school to conduct necessary counseling for those affected.
“We are indeed concerned by the occurrence of this incident and find it unfortunate that our children were injured in such a manner at school.
“We would like to wish all affected learners a speedy recovery.
“Furthermore, we call upon SGB members to always be vigilant of challenges faced by their schools and report them to the department for necessary attention,”said Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane.

Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana said 52 learners were injured in the accident.
“The accident happened when the bus that they were travelling in overturned on the R70 Ventersburg– Senekal road about 30km from Ventersburg.”
THE LEARNERS WERE RETURNING FROM AN ALL-GIRLS SPORTS EVENT
Dukwana said the incident involved approximately 58 learners from an all-girls sports event.
They were on the way from an outdoor event in Moolmanshoek near Rosendal to Riebeeckstad in Welkom.
