Controversial American anti-gay (and anti-just about everything else) Pastor Steven Anderson is to be deported from Botswana, according to the local government in a Twitter announcement Tuesday.
Last week the pastor was banned from South Africa as SA’s Department of Home Affairs (DHA) responded to a petition from the LGBTI community.
The DHA consulted with various other organisations, including the SA Human Rights Commission, before deciding to prohibit Anderson and members of his church from entering South Africa, as well as declaring the American a “prohibited person” in SA… on “the basis that I am certain they promote hate speech as well as advocate social violence.”
The pastor arrived in Botswana on Friday. Earlier today he uploaded a video of his first sermon in the country.
Botswana’s Lesbian Gays and Bisexuals group (Legabibo) delivered a petition to the local government, requesting that Botswana also ban Anderson.
Today the government agreed and tweeted: “Pastor #StevenAnderson‚ a #USA citizen has been declared a Prohibited Immigrant and as such is being deported from #Botswana.”
