The Border Management Authority (BMA) is set to mark a significant achievement as it hosts a pass-out parade on Thursday, celebrating the graduation of 400 new recruits.

These recruits have successfully completed their training at the South African Police Training College in Pretoria West and are now ready to embark on their duties as Junior Border Guards.

NEWLY TRAINED OFFICERS SET TO BOLSTER BORDER SECURITY AT PORTS OF ENTRY

These newly trained officers will be deployed to various ports of entry across the country, where they will assume their roles as law enforcement officers. Their primary responsibility will be to apprehend and deport illegal migrants, contributing to the ongoing efforts to maintain border security.

In a statement issued by the BMA, the significance of this event is underscored within the context of South Africa’s 30 years of democracy. It represents a continuation of the nation’s struggle to combat illegal movement across its borders, a challenge that has persisted over the years.

Furthermore, the BMA emphasised the importance of qualities such as dedication, patriotism, and unwavering commitment in the role of the guards. These officers are tasked with safeguarding the integrity of South Africa’s borders, demonstrating discipline and courage in the face of complex and ever-evolving challenges.

Michael Masiapato, Commissioner of the Border Management Authority, expressed anticipation for the event, which will showcase the culmination of the recruits’ intensive training. He highlighted the vital role these officers play as defenders of the nation’s freedom and sovereignty.

“We will celebrate not only their achievements but also reaffirm our steadfast support to the border guards. They are to be officially adorned not just as defenders of borders; they are the guardians of our freedom, the sentinels of our sovereignty,” he said.

The passing-out parade will not only celebrate the achievements of the new recruits but also serve as a reaffirmation of support for their crucial mission.

AUTHORITIES SHOWCASES OVER 100 RESPONSE VEHICLES

In addition to the ceremonial aspects, more than 100 border management response vehicles will be on display, further emphasising the authority’s commitment to enhancing border security.

Moreover, the establishment of the Border Management Authority represents a significant step in addressing the structural challenges of border security, control, and coordination.

President Cyril Ramaphosa officially launched the authority in Musina last year, positioning it as the third armed service in South Africa, alongside the South African National Defence Force and the South African Police Service.
