Bathers, public urged to be responsible when visiting the beach
Scores of people will flock to beaches as the hot summer weather approaches. The NSRI has a message for beach goers.
As some parts of South Africa continue to experience heatwave conditions, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has urged the public to be responsible when doing coastal activities at the beach
Bathers, hikers, sailors, paddlers, fishermen, and boaters on coastal and inland waters are urged to keep safety in mind.
SEA RESCUE INSTITUTE ON BEACH SAFETY
The rescue institute appealed to beach bathers to only swim at beaches protected by lifeguards and between the safer swimming areas posted by lifeguards.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambignon urged parents and children to have responsible adult supervision for children when they are in and around water
“Don’t be distracted – watch over the children. NSRI, lifeguards, police, and the emergency services are on high alert, and we are urgently appealing to everyone – first and foremost – to be safe,” he said.
