Are you travelling this Easter weekend? Estimates from N3 Toll Services, based on the volume of vehicles that pass through their toll plazas, have highlighted the common travel patterns on this public holiday.
HERE IS HOW TO AVOID THE BUSIEST TIMES THIS EASTER WEEKEND
Here are the peak traffic times on the N1 North and N4 West this Easter Weekend.
PEAK TRAFFIC HOURS FOR EASTER WEEKEND
Thursday, 28 March, 9:00– 20:00
The day before Good Friday is notorious for high traffic volumes, as South Africans are escaping the office early to maximise their long weekend or have even taken off on Thursday.
Leave early in the morning as peak times are expected from 9:00 until 20:00.
Friday 29 March, 5:00 – 15:00
Good Friday is one of the busiest times of the year on our roads: With several motorists deciding to start their Easter weekend on Friday morning, you must either be up relatively early or leave after 15:00 on Friday. The peak traffic times for Friday are from 5:00 until 15:00.
Monday 1 April, 9:00 – 18:00
On Monday, everyone has exhausted themselves. Here is when peak traffic on the N1 South and N4 East routes.
It would help if you left as early or as late as possible to avoid the worst of the traffic here. Traffic experts anticipate peak traffic from 9:00 until 20:00 on Monday.
THE WORST TIMES TO BE ON THE ROAD THIS WEEKEND
Solomon Kganyago, Chief Operations Officer, encourages motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time and avoid travelling during peak periods.
“Adhere to the speed limits, be extra cautious and alert when approaching busy intersections and areas of high traffic volumes, and ensure your planning includes sufficient time to stop and take a break at least every two hours or after travelling for 200km during your journey. Driver fatigue occurs when motorists have not had enough time to rest before embarking on a long journey and could potentially lead to crashes and fatalities.”- Solomon Kganyago said.
SAVE THIS EMERGENCY NUMBER
Should road users encounter an emergency while travelling the Bakwena N1N4 route, the number to dial for assistance is 0800 BAKWENA / 0800 2259362, which is available 24/7.
Meanwhile, Bakwena has once again partnered with Wheel Well.
“We will make available 25 children seats across all age ranges available for a minimal donation to road users who do not have seats for their children. This campaign will be taking place at Total Panorama Petroport on the N1 on Thursday 28 March between 10:00 and 13:00. The friendly staff from Bakwena and Wheel Well will be available to assist parents with valuable car seat advice as well.”- Solomon Kganyago said.
