Are SASSA gold cards still expiring?
Will SASSA and the Department of Social Development be able to replace all expired cards by the end of the year?
The Democratic Alliance has blasted the Department of Social Development, the South African Social Security Agency and Postbank for their lack of communication regarding the gold cards which are set to expire at the end of the year.

Earlier this year, the department announced an extension on the cards expiry, however the DA says the departments silence is causing panic amongst beneficiaries.
“With no clarity or communication on the card renewal process, South Africa will very likely witness long queues, technical and biometric challenges, SAPO branches running out of cards, and the most vulnerable returning home empty handed with their constitutional and basic human rights infringed on once again”, says Alexander Abrahams, deputy shadow minister of Social Development.

In July minister Lindiwe Zulu revealed that they will communicate with beneficiaries as to when they will be able to start approaching the Post Office for their new cards.
Abrahams adds that in order to avoid beneficiaries flocking to the post office, and many leaving empty handed with no new cards, another extension is likely on the cards.

“Ministers Zulu will be left with no choice other than to approach the Payments Association of South Africa yet again for an extension of the expiry date to avoid a humanitarian crisis.”
HOW TO RECEIVE GRANT ON PERSONAL ACCOUNT
Should a beneficiary wish to change and receive their grant via their person bank account they will need to complete a Sassa Annexure C (bank form). This form can be obtained from any Sassa office or downloaded online.
- Take it to your bank to be filled in and stamped.
- Submit it to a Sassa local office to be captured and processed
- As soon as this written request is processed, Sassa will then deposit the social grant money directly into the bank account.
