ANC calls group advocating for Cape independence ‘racist’
The ANC lambasted the group advocating for Cape independence, which closed the R62 between the Western and Eastern Cape.
The African National Congress (ANC) has condemned acts of alleged racism by a group advocating for the Cape independence who closed the R62 road between the Eastern Cape and Western Cape.
Images and videos of people being stopped and searched by vigilantes advocating for the independence of the Western Cape were widely circulated on social media.
ANC CONDEMNS PRO-CAPE INDEPENDENCE GROUP FOR BLOCKING R62
Following the incident, which sparked public outrage, the ANC said it is a grim reminder of the categorisation of blacks as illegal immigrants who must be deported to the Eastern Cape.
The ruling party said the incident is a further reminder of a well-orchestrated plan for an independent Western Cape enclave exclusive to the minority as championed by the Democratic Alliance, supported by the fascist Cape Independents through the Powers Bill and plans of secession.
This proposal is nothing new, and the Cape Independence Party has been prominent in the political landscape for the past decade or so. Calls for the Cape independence have once again intensified.
They want a clean break from South Africa and hope to make the Western Cape its own country – leaving the rest of the country with just eight provinces.

It is a lie that only Black cars were searched.
All cars were stopped and searched.

ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said the appalling and despicable acts are a blatant violation of human rights and, desecration of the Constitution and acts of criminality punishable by law.
“Racists have brazenly nailed their colours to the mast. In fighting these cowardly and cruel acts, the ANC calls on South Africans to exercise restraint to allow the police, the South African Human Rights Commission and other agencies of the State to investigate and deal with these matters,” Bhengu-Motsiri said.
ANOTHER ORANIA ON THE CARDS?
The call for an independent Western Cape comes as no surprise as Orania already exists – a whites-only town in the Northern Cape.
Orania was founded in 1991 by Carel Boshoff Snr, an Afrikaner intellectual and son-in-law of apartheid architect Hendrik Verwoerd.
The controversial town, which has schools, shops, salons, and other amenities, has been giving many politicians sleepless nights, with some vowing to have its status reviewed or closed down.
In 2021, the number of people living in Orania spiked by 16.5%. Since 2018, the amount of residents has skyrocketed by over 55%. The total population is now nearing 2 500 for the first time – and there are plans to go further.
