AMAZULU TO LURE PIRATES VETERAN KEEPER TO DURBAN

Isolezwe reports that the Durban-based club, AmaZulu are planning to open talks with Pirates to sign keeper Mpontshane who is a bench warmer at Mayfair.

Under coach Jose Riveiro, the veteran has been starved of regular game time as he prefers Sipho Chaine as well as Richard Ofori.

“Akpeyi has a contract with Swallows but it seems that will not be an issue because there is a discussion that there could be a swap deal involving Abbubaker Mobara,” reports Isolezwe.

“It seems AmaZulu are not happy with Mobara. At the same time, King Ndlovu’s name has also been mentioned, it could be easier to sign him because he has no club at the moment.

“Age is on his side and he can provide competition to Veli Mothwa. The other name that has been mentioned is that of Mpontshane.

“Although he remains contracted to Pirates, his name has also been discussed.”

Following the arrival of Melusi Buthelezi from TS Galaxy, Mpontshane’s chances of game time are slim but it remains to be seen if Usuthu will eventually secure his signature.
