Security employed by Mofoko Security Patrols at R.K Khan Hospital in Durban, say they have not been paid their salaries and now without jobs as a new company has been appointed by the hospital.

“We don’t know what’s happening. On Friday a new company started work in the hospital and we were left outside. Now we just want answers as to why we are sidelined when we are asking for our salaries” asks an affected security guard.

According to ActionSA provincial chairperson, Zwakele Mncwango, the same security company has also failed to pay salaries for their employees who are outsourced by General Justice Gozenga Mpanza Regional Hospital in Stanger north of Durban.

Mncwango has written to Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane, and Head of Department, Dr Sandile Tshabalala, seeking immediate action and intervention in this regard.

“There should be measures put in place to prevent the exploitation of their workers, which ultimately results in the disturbance of workflow in government entities. It is critical in this case, where lifesaving work needs to be performed unencumbered by security” says Mncwango.

“To avoid such problems going forward, we believe that it is high time that the provincial government begins the conversation with all government departments and municipalities and begins the process of insourcing all security personnel” he concluded.
