ActionSA calls ANC’s no-confidence motion in Tshwane mayor an ‘opportunistic ploy’
The ANC plans to propose a no-confidence motion against Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink, citing inadequate service delivery.
ActionSA is highly troubled by the ANC’s recent move to propose a no-confidence motion against City of Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink.
It says the motion poses a significant threat to the stability of the coalition government.
ANC TO TABLE NO CONFIDENCE MOTION IN TSHWANE MAYOR
Following the 2021 Local Government Elections, the City of Tshwane just like other metro municipalities in Gauteng and around the country has been governed through a Democratic Alliance-led coalition.
ActionSA caucus leader Jackie Mathabathe in the City of Tshwane said they view the ANC’s move as an opportunistic ploy to disrupt the coalition government’s progress in delivering much-needed services to the city’s residents.
Mathabathe said ActionSA joined the coalition with a clear mission to bring about positive change and address the community’s needs.
Mathabathe said that since the inception of the coalition government, significant strides have been made to improve the City of Tshwane.
“For the first time since the term of office, the City of Tshwane has been stable and is effecting institutional change that is now starting to root out corruption and institutionalise the captured procurement. The improvements in the audit outcomes were not in isolation from the coalition’s efforts,” she explained.
In addition, Mathabe cited the decrease in irregular expenditure by over R10 billion and improvements in capital project management, resulting in a 92% expenditure rate and the termination of over 20 projects due to underperforming contractors.
The party also called on all coalition partners to remain united and focused on their mission of serving the people of Tshwane and not be deterred by the ANC’s political gamesmanship.
