Abalone poachers busted in Smitswinkel Bay, Cape Town
SANParks, with the help of ECI and Canine Unit, apprehended two abalone poachers in Smitswinkel Bay, Cape Town after receiving valuable tip offs from the public.
Responding swiftly to public tip-offs, the South African National Parks (SANParks) Environment Crime Investigation (ECI) Unit, working alongside its Canine Unit and the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) Marine Unit Rangers, successfully apprehended two suspected abalone poachers in Smitswinkel Bay, Cape Town.
After transport to the South African Police Services, the apprehended suspects now face charges related to illegal harvesting, emphasising the ongoing battle against abalone poachers in Cape Town. The confiscated abalone has been handed over for further legal action.

The TMNP, housing the Table Mountain Marine Protected Area (MPA) and Robben Island MPA, plays a pivotal role in safeguarding diverse marine ecosystems around the Cape Peninsula through meticulously designated restricted and controlled zones.
