The Mercedes driver enjoyed dominance from 2014-21 but the new F1 regulation changes in 2022 have seen Hamilton struggle with the W13 and W14 cars.

Hamilton displayed good pace in Friday’s session, and at one stage looked to be on course to top the timesheets, but ultimately he finished in third, with his final lap being 0.139s away from that of Leclerc in P1.

The United States Grand Prix, staged in Austin, takes place on Sunday evening.
