Charles Leclerc favourite to take pole in Abu Dhabi
Charles Leclerc looked strong during the second free practice in Abu Dhabi. The Monegasque set the pace and is likely to take pole.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is hopeful of having a great weekend at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after topping the timesheets during the second free practice on Friday.
The Monegasque set the pace in the second practice session, coming out on top despite two red flags disrupting the action.

The 26-year-old Leclerc had secured a few pole positions this season but the lack of converting poles to win has been his biggest weakness
He remains positive that the car will be quicker this weekend.

“Yeah, because I only did one lap on the medium [tyre] then straightaway a lap on the soft and it was feeling pretty good. It’s a good sign when it starts like this, so [I] hope we can have a great weekend from now on,” Leclerc said on Friday.

The five-time F1 winner remains wary of the challenge posed by Mercedes, with George Russell having led the way in the day’s first practice hour.
“It’s true that also Mercedes looked very strong,” the Scuderia driver added. “I don’t know what happened exactly in FP2 – they looked a little bit less strong compared to FP1, so we’ve still got a lot of work to do because we will be fighting with them this weekend,” said Leclerc.
