One of the world’s most recognisable cars has been spruced up for 2024. The Golf has always been Volkswagen’s mainstay in its range, and the GTI elevated its status in the performance car realm. Here are 10 PICS of the updated Volkswagen Golf GTI set to go on sale in various markets later this year:

The first Golf rolled off the production line in Wolfsburg 50 years ago, and a total of over 37 million units have been sold worldwide according to Volkswagen.

For 2024 the face of the GTI has been altered with a new front bumper, LED lights and an optional light strip across the grille and illuminated Volkswagen badge.

The updated model now features 195kW, up from 169kW, from its 2.0-litre EA888 turbocharged engine, and has these sweet ‘telephone dial’ design wheels.

Volkswagen will only offer a two-pedal version of the GTI after it announced it would no longer offer a six-speed manual transmission version for the popular hot hatch.

At the rear of the updated GTI there is a new black diffuser and fresher LED taillights. The performance hatchback retains its dual exhaust pipe tips.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars says: “The Golf has been at the heart of the Volkswagen brand for half a century now, offering affordable mobility for all at the highest technical level.”

It’s unclear when the updated model is set to go on sale locally, but it’s likely Volkswagen will retain its strategy of only selling the performance variants in South Africa.
