SA vehicle sales: Top 10 best-selling vehicles in September 2023
46 021 new vehicle sales were registered in September 2023, a decline of 4.1% when compared to SA vehicle sales in the same period last year.
New vehicle sales declined for the second consecutive month to with 46 021 sales recorded in September. The figure represents a reduction of 1963 units, or a fall of 4.1% compared to SA vehicle sales in September 2022, according to TimesLive.
Automotive business council, Naamsa attributes last month’s drop in sales to higher fuel prices, ongoing challenges in transport logistics, Eskom’s incapacity to meet industry’s energy demands, the volatility in commodity prices, and the intricate external environment.

THE COST OF LIVING IS AFFECTING SA VEHICLE SALES
These factors mentioned above have impacted the local motoring industry’s ability to maintain high sales figures it saw earlier this year.
Naamsa gave a breakdown of how the industry’s sales were divided between dealers, the rental industry and sales to government. The total 37 149 units, or 80,7% of the 46 021 sales represented dealer sales , an estimated 6241 units or 13.6% represented sales to the vehicle rental industry, 2.9% or 1321 units to industry corporate fleets, and 2.8% or 1310 units sales to government.
