‘The good ol’ days’: 1992 grocery slip leaves Mzansi nostalgic
Imagine spending R54 on a big basket of groceries? In 1992, this was a reality for South Africans and many can’t believe it.
It’s no secret that most people are struggling to get by in South Africa. Things have become so difficult that many people have had to give up some of the things we enjoy the most as we resort to spending only when necessary. Even doing that doesn’t keep tough times at bay and unfortunately things don’t look like it will be improving anytime soon. This must be why many people were left feeling nostalgic after seeing a Pick n Pay grocery slip from 1992.
On the slip were a number of household items which were priced at around R2 each with nothing over R5. This was a big shock to locals who now spend R2000 on a small trolley that barely keeps through the month.

OLD GROCERY SLIP LEAVES MZANSI IN THEIR FEELS

While the wages weren’t the highest, it was certainly enough to get South African families through the month.
These days, many households have been forced to make certain budget cuts and are no longer enjoying things like meat and family visits.
