STELLENBOSCH STUDENT’S RENT VIDEO GOES VIRAL
The TikTok video shows the University of Stellenbosch student revealing how much she pays for rent – R11, 500 to be exact.
However, the price is merely for one room in a three-bedroom shared unit. This means that Roxanne has two other roommates – who also pay R11,500 each – and have to share a kitchen and living room.
The student also revealed that the rent included access to amenities like a gym, laundry room, study area, and entertainment area.
Needless to say, in the comment section, social media users were shocked at the steep price tag.
“R11,500 to share with two other people is crazy.”
“I can get a full three-bedroom apartment in Waterfall, Midrand, for R11k.”
“R11,5k a month? That’s a bond on a house.”
“I pay R12k on my three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Gordon’s Bay!”
However, a few claim that the in-demand location of Stellenbosch likely influenced the market value of the property.
WORTH THE PRICE?
While many TikTokers remain unconvinced at the rent prices in Stellenbosch, Roxanne believes it is well worth it.
When asked what she loved about living in the leafy suburb, she said: “I like that it’s a student town. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.
“It’s very easygoing and safe”.
In a video posted on her own TikTok, she added that the “amazing views and gorgeous skies and outside entertainment area just makes staying here worth the while”
