Red double-decker buses return to London streets for a day
The streets of London will be treated with a blast from the past when the iconic vintage red double-decker buses make a special appearance.
The city of London will step back in time when typical red double-decker buses return to the streets for a day this Sunday.
LONDON BUSES
London is a major global tourist hotspot. The city attracts millions of international tourists every year.
Visitors are drawn to the city for its various attractions and activities. There are a number of iconic symbols which come to mind when thinking of London.
One of these is the red public phone booths dotted around the city. Another is the double-decker buses that plough the lengths and breadths of the city.
RED DOUBLE-DECKER BUSES
London’s iconic double-decker buses are very much a trademark for the British capital. They have been in operation for decades, enabling passage through the city.
That said, the buses are etched into the memory of many of the city’s residents and tourists, who rely on these bus services to get them where they need or want to go.
ICONIC LONDON SYMBOL
Over the years the shape and design of these buses have changed. Technology has brought improvements from both operational and comfort perspectives.
Consequently, many of the older models have been replaced with more modern versions, which somehow do not have the same vintage charm as the old ones.
RED DOUBLE-DECKER BUSES RETURNING FOR A DAY
Red double-decker London buses dating from the ’50s up to the ’80s will be plying the streets of north London this weekend.
On Sunday 10 March, these buses will operate on several routes in the city.
FREE LONDON BUS RIDES
According to Timeout, bus enthusiasts will be able to ride old-fashioned double-deckers on several different north London bus routes.
Furthermore, some of the double-deckers will be offering free rides. What an attractive offer, considering bus trips cost up to £1.75 (R 40) per ticket!
BYGONE ERA
Over time, things come and go. Similar to the phasing out of its older red double-decker buses, London recently bid farewell to the iconic Fenwick store on Bond Street.
The 130-year-old department store in London’s Bond Street closed its doors last month.
