Just in time for summer and the festive season, massive N1 stop-go roadworks will be in place between Johannesburg and Cape Town, says the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL).

The government agency warns motorists that maintenance crews will be in place in sections 10 and 11 from 28 August 2023. The work is expected to last until May 2024, reports Top Auto.
N1 STOP-GO ROADWORKS
SANRAL says N1 stop-go roadworks will be in place between Bontebok and Hanover, Northern Cape. This is a busy thoroughfare for motorists traveling between Gauteng and the Western Cape.

The N1 stop-go roadworks form part of SANRAL’s periodic maintenance, including pre-treatment and re-sealing of the road. Sections 10 and 11 on the N1 will also benefit from improved drainage and ancillary works infrastructure.

SANRAL says speed restrictions of 60km/h will be applied at work zones on the N1 stop-go roadworks for the next nine months. Motorists are urged to find alternative routes and allow extra time on this route.
N2 EASTERN CAPE
Besides the N1 stop-go roadworks, the N2 highway between Makhanda (Grahamstown) and the Fish River Pass in the Eastern Cape will be experiencing weekly blasting operations until the end of July 2024.

SANRAL warns that the blasting takes place every Wednesday at 14h00. The N2 will be closed for a maximum period of three hours after blasting for cleaning and to make it safe for commuters.
