Banks where you can get your Smart ID and passport in SA

The Department of Home Affairs has 30 approved bank branches where you can obtain a smart ID card and passport in SA.

Despite extending the eHome Affairs pilot with banks to March 2024, South Africans are still limited to 30 branches across major banks to apply for and receive their Smart ID and passport.

However, the Department of Home Affairs hopes to expand the services to several branches.

THE EHOME AFFAIRS PILOT SERVICE

The eHome Affairs pilot with banks was launched in 2015 and has been operational for eight years. However, the department has it that over 3.5 million South Africans have used the bank branch system to apply for Smart IDs and passports.

The system allows banking customers to book appointments on the digital platform to apply for and process Smart IDs and passports without stepping foot at the Home Affairs office.

BANKS WHERE YOU CAN GET YOUR SMART ID AND PASSPORT IN SA

However, reports say the service is set to expand before March 2024. Here is a breakdown of the 30 bank branches offering eHome Affairs pilot services.

Standard Bank has nine branches, which include:

  • Standard Bank Kathu Mall
  • Standard Bank Centurion
  • Standard Bank Kingsmead
  • Standard Bank Jubilee Mall
  • Standard Bank Canal Walk – Cape Town
  • Standard Bank Mitchell’s Plain Promenade
  • Standard Bank Mitchell’s Plain Promenade
  • Standard Bank Newton Park

On the other hand, FNB has seven branches, which include:

  • FNB Centurion Lifestyle Centre
  • FNB Centurion Lifestyle Centre
  • FNB Cornubia
  • FNB Glen Shopping Centre
  • FNB Greenpoint
  • FNB Lynwood
  • FNB Merchant Place

However, Nedbank has six branches which offer the eHome Affairs pilot service, and these. branches are:

  • Nedbank Arcadia
  • Nedbank Constantia Kloof
  • Nedbank Nelspruit
  • Nedbank Rivonia
  • Nedbank St George’s Mall
  • Nedbank Durban North

Moreover, Absa Bank has six branches dotted around South Africa, and these branches are:

  • Absa Centurion Lifestyle Centre
  • Absa Key West Krugersdorp
  • Absa Sandton City
  • Absa Port Elizabeth
  • Absa Stellenbosch
  • Absa Towers

However, Investec Bank and Discovery Bank also offer the eHome Affairs pilot service.
