What to do if SASSA rejects your social grant application
Approved social grants are paid on approved dates. But what if your social grant was rejected?
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is responsible for paying South Africa’s social grants.
Social grants include the R350-SRD Grant, Disability Grants, Childcare Grants, and Older Persons (Pensioners) Grants. Veterans and In-Aid grants are also part of the social system.
Approved social grants are paid on approved dates. But what if your social grant was rejected?
Here’s how to appeal rejected SASSA grants.
SASSA: HOW TO APPEAL REJECTED SOCIAL GRANTS
Approved social grants pay out on the approved dates each month. A means test is used to assess each social grant, and grants can be rejected from the system if they don’t meet this important criteria.
Rejections can be in error.
Contact SASSA in writing for rejected social grants.
According to SASSA, appeal your rejection in 30 days from receipt. If you take longer than this, you might have to apply for your social grant again.
SASSA: SOCIAL GRANT PAYMENT DATES FOR MARCH, 2024
SASSA have released March’s grant payment dates.
The first grant is the Older Persons (Pensioners) Grant on 5 March. Next, the Disability Grants pay on 6 March. The Children’s (Childcare) and Foster Care Grants will pay out the day after this – that’s 7 March, 2024.
Grant recipients can check their accounts. National retailers (including PnP, Spar, and Boxer Superstores) also allow grant withdrawals.
Social grant cards are still valid in 2024 if that’s how you receive your grant.
SASSA: APPLYING FOR YOUR SOCIAL GRANT
If you haven’t applied for a social grant, you can do this via their website here.
All South Africans may apply for government social assistance. If your income falls below a certain threshold, then you might qualify for some of the help programs.
A regional office can also help grant applications. See your nearest regional office and make a visit for your grant application.
