World Aquatic Championships: SA men’s water polo side suffers another defeat

The South African men’s water polo team has suffered another heavy group stage defeat at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

The side went down 30-5 against Serbia on Wednesday.

The scores by quarter were 8-1, 9-1, 7-1, 6-2.

In their opening match on Monday, the SA men’s side lost 35-10 to Montenegro.

The scores by quarter in that clash were 6-1, 10-0, 9-5, 10-4.

In two matches to date the SA men’s side have scored 15 goals while conceding 65.

The SA men’s side will wrap up their Group D commitments against Spain on Friday at 03:30 (SA time) in what is likely to be another heavy defeat for South Africa with Spain having beaten both Serbia and Montenegro to date.

Meanwhile, the women’s side went down 24-2 against Italy on Tuesday.

The scores by quarter were 2-1, 7-0, 7-1, 8-0.

The SA women’s side lost by the identical scoreline to Greece in their opening match last Sunday.

The scores by quarter in that match were 7-1, 6-1, 6-0, 5-0.

In two matches to date the SA women’s side have scored four goals while conceding 48.

The SA women’s side will conclude their Group C commitments against Argentina on Thursday at 02:00 (SA time).

They may well fancy their chances against Argentina who have lost 27-1 to Italy and 21-2 to Greece to date.
