Carlos Alcaraz has taken confidence from his first title win on grass at the Queen’s Club on Sunday and feels he could be among the Wimbledon favourites.

The third Grand Slam of the year gets underway on Monday 3 July 2023.

CARLOS ALCARAZ UPBEAT ON WIMBLEDON CHANCES

Alcaraz will be the top seed for the Slam after regaining the world No 1 ranking by winning the ATP 500 event in Kensington.

He defeated Australian Alex de Minaur 6-4 6-4 in dominant fashion to underline his progress on grass.

Alcaraz will cherish the memory of winning a special title at Queen’s.

“It felt great to lift this trophy and to win my first tournament on grass. It is an amazing run for me this week,” he said.

“I played at an amazing level at the end of the week but seeing my name on a trophy, it means a lot, so I am going to keep that memory for the rest of my life, for sure.”

Alcaraz has no expectations of success at Wimbledon but has renewed belief in his abilities.

“No expectations,” Alcaraz said when asked about Wimbledon.

“If I did not have expectations (here) and I won it. Honestly, I have a lot of confidence now coming into Wimbledon. I ended up the week playing at a high level, so right now I feel one of the favourites to win Wimbledon.”

DJOKOVIC IS STILL FAVOURITE

He feels that Djokovic remains the man to beat at SW19 though.

“Well, I am coming now (to play) Wimbledon with a lot of confidence, that’s obvious, but I saw a statistic that Novak has won more matches at Wimbledon than any top-20 player,” Alcaraz added.

“What can I say about that? Novak is the main favourite to win Wimbledon, that’s obvious, but I will try to play at this level to have chances to beat him or make the final at Wimbledon.”
