And the South Africa-born 52-year-old billionaire has continued to widen the gap over Obama – and the rest of the world – on the popular social media platform.

The founder of Tesla and SpaceX at the time of publishing on Friday, 7 July had 146 976 717 Twitter followers, over 11 million ahead of Obama, who had 132 182 810 to his name.
Pop superstar Justin Bieber is in third place with 112 032 787 followers.

Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose company launched ‘Threads’ this week, an app which hopes to beat out Musk’s struggling Twitter, boasts a paltry 639 496 followers.
