THE AUTHENTIC PERSON:
Here is a list of some attributes that authentic individuals often possess.
1. HONESTY
No one likes tolerating dishonest people, but they’re out there. Honesty is the trait that most people associate with authenticity.
It’s because genuine people are straightforward and transparent in their interactions with others, and they don’t feel the need to pretend or to be disingenuous.
2. RESPECTING OTHERS
Authentic people are generally respectful of others. They understand that everyone has different values and beliefs.
Since they are respectful, they tend to be active listeners who tolerate different opinions.
They give their undivided attention, seek understanding before responding, and don’t interrupt or ignore the thoughts and feelings of others.
3. EMPATHY AND KINDNESS
If we want to be more authentic, we need to demonstrate genuine empathy and compassion toward others.
We must try to have more empathy toward others. Try starting with even just the minimum.
4. VULNERABILITY
When we are vulnerable, we are more attuned to the feelings of others. We should try to understand and empathize with their experiences.
This breaks down barriers and creates an environment of trust and openness.
5. MINDFULNESS
Genuine people are usually mindful individuals. They pay attention to their own thoughts, emotions, and actions.
They harbour deep connections with themselves and the world around them.
6. ADAPTABILITY
Authentic people are generally open to change and are quite adaptable in various situations. However, that doesn’t mean they must compromise their core values.
Not being rigid or overly attached to specific outcomes enables them to navigate life’s uncertainties with resilience.
7. GRATITUDE
Having a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the people and experiences in life is something authentic people do.
It is helpful to be grateful and to have an “attitude of gratitude”.
8. RESILIENCE
Genuine people focus on solutions to problems. Instead of dwelling on the negatives they work on optimism and hope.
Resilience is linked with a positive mindset – even in difficult situations. Bouncing back from setbacks is easier when you are optimistic.
9. BEING VALUE-DRIVEN
Most authentic people prioritize being true to themselves and ensuring that their actions and decisions reflect their beliefs.
By staying true to their values, they are able to maintain a sense of authenticity and integrity.
10. HAVING PATIENCE
Good things come to those who wait! Authentic people are patient with themselves and with others.
