Parents and guardians have been urged to take care of their children following an incident where two young boys drowned after they allegedly sneaked out to swim in Nzhelele River at Tshituni tsha fhasi in Limpopo.
The incident happened on Sunday 23 April 2023.
TWO YOUNG BOYS DROWNED IN NZHELELE RIVER
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Limpopo, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said according to the information available at this stage, it is alleged that the two boys Vhonani Chaele (11) and Pfariso Ramudidibi (12) were visiting a relative when they sneaked out at about 16:00 and went to swim in a local river and subsequently drowned.
Ledwaba said members of the community managed to retrieve the body of one of the boys and thereafter sought assistance from the police whereby the SAPS Search and Rescue Divers managed to retrieve the second body.
“Police have opened a case of Inquest. Investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.

Acting Police Commissioner in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers cautioned both parents and guardians to ensure that their children do not take part in swimming activities unsupervised and to be extremely careful to ensure they continuously don’t lose sight of their children to avoid such heartbreaking incidents.
