The three men – aged 47 and 37 – were arrested at their homes in Bloemfontein on Monday night. National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the trio would face charges of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody, violation of a corpse and corruption.

FURTHER ARRESTS POSSIBLE

Mathe added that the possibility of further arrests cannot be ruled out. Bester and his co-accused last appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 20 June, and the matter was postponed to 8 August for further investigation.
