The South African Cabinet has announced its decision to further extend the National State of Disaster by one month.
Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Minister of COGTA (Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs), explained in a tweet on Wednesday afternoon: “This period will allow government a progressive and responsible return to normal. It will help us put measures in place to avoid a second wave of infections.”
The Minister posted the following message:
The news was met with criticism by several social media users who claimed the latest South African Covid stats do not justify this extension. (Yesterday 888 new positive cases, and 83 more COVID-19 related deaths were registered.)
