An eThekwini resident has discovered not just one, but four golden rings on a beach in Umhlanga Rocks, just north of Durban in South Africa. Marianne Barnard is on a mission to find the owner of the rings, which could be a local or foreign tourist… so if you know anybody who was on holiday in Umhlanga last month, and lost their rings, please let them know.
Marianne found the rings on 14 January 2020, during a visit to Bronze Beach. They were lying on the grass area.
“As I put my phone down next to my towel, I saw something,” says Marianne. “First thought it was a little wire thingy, but with closer scrutiny, it was a gold wedding band. I could not believe it when a few minutes later, as I lay down, I saw another similar shiny piece.
“On picking it up and as I turned it around, it had a diamond. It was a perfect match to the wedding band I picked up earlier on. Obviously a wedding band set.”
Much later, as Marianne was packing to go home, she spotted another wedding band! This one was broader, and not far from it was another gold ring!
“I could not believe it!” she wrote on social media, during her quest to find the owner of the four rings.
Marianne told SAPeople: “It seems they all belong to same person for various reason.”
She said that since posting her message almost three weeks ago, “I have been contacted by about 8 people already, but unfortunately they are not the rightful owners.”
The photo above deliberately does not show the rings clearly so that Marianne can identify the rightful owner by their description of the rings.
“If you know of family or friends who lost precious rings when they went to the beach or on vacation here in Umhlanga, please share this and ask them to “inbox” me. I will then contact them and return the rings to the rightful owner or owners,” she says.
