President Cyril Ramaphosa has painted a bleak picture of the countries energy crisis but has reiterated commitment to end loadshedding.

South Africans should brace themselves for a gloomy cold winter as President Cyril Ramaphosa has painted a bleak picture of the countries energy crisis. Ramaphosa was speaking in Chatsworth Durban where the party welcomed new members who had floor crossed from the Democratic Alliance.

ELECTRICITY- A GLOBAL PROBLEM

While the country has faced persistent daily power cuts since September 2022, the President made it clear the South Africa’s energy problems are not unique and countries such as the USA had once upon a time experienced it.

“We are not the only country in the world the world that is struggling with electricity. I remember years ago California was always in the dark. We can assure you that we are going to find our way through that. Winter is going to be a challenge an enormous challenge because that is when we use electricity in a big way”, says Ramaphosa.

On Monday, the ANC’s National Working Committee is expected to meeting and give an update on the energy crises. Ramaphosa has continued to reiterate governments commitment to ensure power cuts come to an end.

“We are addressing this challenge ,it is a challenge that all of us have and we are addressing it. I am absolutely sure and certain that having appointed an engineer, a person with deep knowledge about electricity, we will be able to solve the problem.”

RAMAPHOSA IN THE HOTSEAT

Responding to questions from the National Assembly last Thursday, on issues of loadshedding, Parliamentary oversight and job separation between the Minister of Electricity and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.

“The Electricity Minister is seeing the full and speedy implementation of the energy action plan, to ensure the severity and frequency of loadshedding is reduced in the immediate term and brought to an end within the shortest possible time,” the President said.

On Sunday Eskom announced that the country will be on stage 4 and 6 throughout the week. This as two generating units at Kriel power station and a unit at Matla power station were taken out of service due to breakdowns.
